Cisco Phone Disposal
WHAT TO DO WITH OLD PHONES:
Each unit is responsible for disposing of their old Cisco phones. As WVU transitions away from traditional office telephones, WVU’s surplus program and recycling program offer opportunities to responsibly dispose of phones and divert them from landfills
Last year, WVU recycled 58 tons of electronics. Moving forward, the University’s transition to Zoom Phone will further support these efforts.
Here’s what’s needed from each unit:
Identify one or more collection points in your building where the phones can remain until pick-up. Consider a centralized location that is easily accessible for collection. Have your employees drop off their phones to this designated location over a two-week period after your unit’s Zoom Phone migration date. Determine a clear deadline date and communicate it to your constituents so the surplus process can begin.
For Surplus Sale and Recycling
An on-site contact person should report your unit’s phone storage location and total number of phones to Tiffany Grove, WVU Surplus Lead at 304-293-5946. Tiffany will schedule a time to view the collected phones and take photos.
Please note that phones will remain at this location for 3 to 6 weeks after the collection deadline while WVU works to divert the phones from landfill through surplus sale and recycling.
For schools and colleges with many nine-month employees, the Surplus Lead will follow up at the beginning of the fall 2025 semester to accept any remaining phones that were not collected over the summer.
