Virtual Meetings and Classes with Zoom

Zoom is a real-time option for video conferencing, online meetings and collaboration. It is available to WVU faculty and staff. Students do not need an account but will need to install Zoom to join. You can access Zoom online at wvu.zoom.us, download the client to your computer, or use a tool link through eCampus. If you install the Zoom client, your Outlook client will display Schedule a Meeting and Start Instant Meeting options for Zoom.

Zoom is recommended for live video conferencing among students, employees and external parties. You can use Zoom to connect live, via audio and video, and share presentation content. You can create breakout groups for collaboration. The meeting can be recorded for students who miss it. Additionally, students with poor connectivity can use their phone to connect to meetings.

Use Zoom through eCampus by adding a Zoom tool link to your course. Faculty will receive all email notifications about Zoom in their MIX account. If you want to receive these emails in your Microsoft 365 account, consider forwarding your MIX email to your Microsoft 365 account

Submit the Zoom HIPAA Request form if you need a HIPAA-compliant Zoom account to discuss patient information. View HSC Zoom Uses and Prerequisites for more information.

Zoom Tips and Tricks

Before a Meeting

Before joining a meeting, make sure you have the Zoom application installed on your computer or mobile device.

It is recommended you use a computer. If you use a mobile device, check the settings to make sure your microphone and camera are enabled before a meeting or you may be kicked out of the meeting.

If you check Only authenticated users can join when creating a meeting, attendees will have to log into the Zoom app to join the meeting if they have not already logged in. Attendees should click or tap log in with SSO and enter WVU in the domain field, then click Continue. Next, attendees should log in with their WVU credentials and authenticate with Duo two-factor.

During a Meeting

Have a designated physical location for Zoom meetings. Check what is in the background (others will be able to see what is around/ behind you). If you are unable to change what is around you, try using a virtual background.
