Tests - Best Practices for Faculty

eCampus provides the ability to offer tests with a number of customizable options. Below are some best practices for administering a test in eCampus.

  • Setup a non-graded practice test with a few questions. This will allow students to become familiar with the function and form of the eCampus testing environment. As well as ensuring their device, browser and internet connection settings are compatible before starting their actual course tests or exams.

  • Do not enable the “Force Completion” test option.  If a student encounters a technical problem when taking the exam, the student will be able to re-enter the exam from the last point saved. This allows for the exam to be submitted with minimal data loss.

  • Use eCampus Communication Tools to send recommendations, and reminders to your students before the testing period begins. Announcements, Course Messages or the Send Email feature can be used to communicate the test expectations or send reminders quickly and effectively to students.

  • Encourage students to use a wired internet connection when test taking. A wired connection is recommended for strong, and stable internet.  WIFI signals can very and may cause a student’s session to drop unexpectedly.

  • Resolve student issues with tests.

Clear a test attempt
If a student experiences a technical problem or needs an additional attempt, you can clear the test attempt. The submission is cleared from the Grade Center and the student can retake the test.

  1. In the Grade Center, locate the cell that displays the In Progress icon for the student grade.

  2. Access the cell's menu and select View Grade Details.

  3. On the Grade Details page, select Clear Attempt.

  4. Select OK to confirm and remove the attempt.

  5. On the Grade History tab, the action is recorded with "Attempt Grade Cleared." In the Grade Center, no grade or icon appears in the student's test cell.

Submit a test for a student
If a student was unable to submit a test but completed the work, you can submit the attempt so you can grade it.

  1. In the Grade Center, locate the cell that displays the In Progress icon the student grade.

  2. Access the cell's menu and select View Grade Details.

  3. On the Grade Details page, select View Attempt.

  4. Be sure the answers were saved. (If multiple questions are marked with No Answer, you can clear the attempt. The student needs to take the test again from the beginning.)

  5. Select Test Information to expand the section.

  6. If you're satisfied with the student's test attempt, select Submit Attempt.

  7. Select OK to confirm the attempt submission.
