Connect Mobile Apple or Android Devices to WVU's Wi-Fi

WVU students, faculty, and staff should connect mobile devices to the WVU.Encrypted wireless network. To configure a mobile device to connect to WVU.Encrypted, follow the steps below for your device.

WVU students and employees trying to connect to WVU.Guest will receive an error message since it is intended for campus guests. Students and employees should connect to WVU.Encrypted for more secure access.

iOS (Apple Devices)

If your phone does not show the fields in the steps below, check your device's user guide for exact steps.

  1. Select Settings.

  2. Select Wi-Fi.

  3. Select Other.

  4. Enter the case sensitive network name as: WVU.Encrypted

  5. Select Security.

  6. Select WPA2 ENTERPRISE.

  7. Select Other network to return to the Network Configuration.

  8. Enter your Login username.

  9. Enter your Login password. If you do not know your Login password, go to login.wvu.edu.

  10. Select Join Network.

Android (Other Devices)

If your phone does not show the fields in the steps below, check your device's user guide for exact steps. Go to Settings > About Device/Phone or Settings > Software Information to determine what version of the Android operating system your device uses. If the device asks for a minimum version of TLS, the option must be 1.1 (1.0 and 1.3 will not work).

If you are asked to enter a domain while setting up the phone, enter wvu.edu

  1. Select Settings.

  2. Select Wireless & networks.

  3. Select Wi-Fi settings.

  4. Scroll down to the bottom and select Add Wi-Fi network.

  5. Enter the following information:

    • Network SSID: WVU.Encrypted

    • Security: 802.1x EAP

    • EAP method: PEAP

    • Phase 2 Authentication: MSCHAPV2

    • CA Certificate:

      • Android 8 and above users should select Do not authenticate from the CA Certificate drop-down menu. Otherwise, leave CA Certificate, User Certificate, and Anonymous Identity fields empty.
Note: Android 11 users may be unable to select Do not Authenticate from the CA Certificate drop down menu and will have to choose Use system certificates. If prompted, choose Do not check for this setting. In this case, you will also have to enter wvu.edu as the domain in order to connect.

      • Note: Android 14 users can select Do not Validate to connect.

    • Online cert: Do not verify

    • Identity: Your Login username

    • Password: Your Login password (if you do not remember your Login password, go to login.wvu.edu)

  6. Leave any Proxy entries empty or unchecked.

  7. If IP settings are available, leave DHCP selected (this should be the default setting).

  8. Save.

You can now select the WVU.Encrypted network from the list of available wireless networks.
