New Microsoft Teams FAQ
Faculty and staff on all campuses can try the new version of Microsoft Teams starting January 16, 2024. To switch to New Teams for the first time, click the toggle bar in the top left corner of the Teams screen. You can revert to Teams Classic using the toggle under the Settings and more (…) menu in the top right corner. Microsoft will require everyone to use New Teams at some point after March 31.

Why does my status indicator remain red after my meeting ends?
If you also use Teams on your mobile phone there may be a synchronization issue. Log out of the Teams app on your phone, then log back in.
The old Teams client let you add stock illustrations or upload a background image when creating an Announcement. Is that function gone?
This function is no longer available in the new Teams client for either Mac or Windows users, but may be released in the future.
I’m using the new Teams client on a Mac with my usual settings, and there is no audio. What do I do?
Recent Mac operating systems let you control which apps and websites can use the microphone. You may need to allow the app to access your microphone inside Mac’s privacy settings:
Click the Apple icon on the top left hand corner, click System Preferences, then click Security & Privacy, and then click Privacy.
On the Privacy screen, click the Microphone option on the lefthand pane, and then select the Microsoft Teams check box to allow access to the microphone.
I’m using the new Teams client on a Mac and I can’t share my screen. What should I do?
The first time you try to share your screen you’ll be prompted to allow Teams to record your computer’s screen, and you may need to leave and rejoin an active Teams meeting to change this setting:
From the prompt, select Open System Preferences.
Under Screen Recording, make sure Microsoft Teams is selected.
If you miss the initial prompt or want to change this setting before a meeting, you can allow screen sharing at any time through your system settings:
Allow screen recording for Monterey OS:
Open macOS System Preferences.
Go to Security & Privacy > Privacy tab > Screen Recording.
Select the + sign to add Microsoft Teams (work Preview) to the list of apps allowed to record the contents of your screen.
Allow screen recording for Ventura OS:
Go to Privacy & Security > Screen Recording.
Switch the toggle for Microsoft Teams (work preview) to allow recording the content of your screen.

I’m using the new Teams Client on a Mac. Why am I not getting notifications?
When you install the new Teams client you’ll get a macOS alert for notifications settings. If you don’t choose to allow notifications from this alert, you must change the notifications settings from your system settings:
Open macOS System Preferences.
Go to Notifications & Focus.
Under App Notifications, select Microsoft Teams.
Switch the Allow notifications toggle to turn on notifications
