Release and Renew IP Address Instructions
Follow these instructions to release and renew the IP address for your computer.
Instructions for Windows 7 computers
Click Start.
In the search bar, type cmd.
Right-click on cmd listed under Programs and click Select. This should open a new window.
Type ipconfig /release and press the Enter key.
Wait a few seconds and you should receive the message "released."
Type ipconfig /renew and press the Enter key.
Wait a few seconds and you should receive the message "renewed."
Type exit and press the Enter key to close the window.
Instructions for Windows 10 computers
Right-click the Start button and select Command Prompt (Admin).
Enter admin username/password if prompted.
Type 'ipconfig /renew' (without the quotations) and press Enter.
Close window to exit Command Prompt.
Instructions for Mac computers
This works for wireless AND wired connections.
Click the Apple button (top left hand corner).
Click System Preferences.
Under Internet & Wireless, click Network.
In the left column, click on the button that corresponds to the connection you're troubleshooting (Wifi/Airport for wireless, ethernet for wired).
Click Advanced in the lower right corner.
Click TCP/IP (if its not already selected).
On the right hand side, there is a button labeled Renew DHCP Lease. This will reset the DHCP lease.
Note: The IP address will NOT change. As stated earlier, this is NOT a release/renew, but it is similar.
Instructions for Windows XP and Vista
Click Start.
Click Run.
Type cmd in the field and click OK. This should open a new window.
Type ipconfig /release and press the Enter key.
Wait a few seconds and you should receive the message "released."
Type ipconfig /renew and press the Enter key.
Wait a few seconds and you should receive the message "renewed."
Type exit and press the Enter key to close the window.
