Install Microsoft 365 Pro Plus for Windows on Personally-Owned Computers
Current WVU students, current employees and emeritus employees can download Microsoft 365 on their personally-owned computers through the University's Microsoft 365 license. The software can be installed on five computers and five mobile devices. When a student or employee leaves WVU, the software will cease to function, and a license purchase will be necessary. This is also the case for non-emeritus retirees.
Employees wishing to install Microsoft on WVU-owned computers should contact their desk side support staff.
Please be sure you have claimed your Login account prior to attempting to install Microsoft 365 ProPlus. Students must also complete New Student Orientation (NSO) and register for classes prior to installation.
Directions
Go to office.com and click Sign in.
Enter your WVU email then click Next. You’ll be prompted to enter your WVU Login credentials and authenticate with Duo.
Although WVU student email addresses end in @mix.wvu.edu, students should use @mail.wvu.edu for installation. This is a special username for activating your license, and is not an email address that can be used elsewhere.
Click Install and more then Install Office to download the Office setup application.
Click Run when the download is finished and follow any additional prompts to complete the installation.
You will be prompted to enter your WVU Login credentials when you first log into Microsoft 365. If you are prompted with a Stay signed in to all apps dialog box, uncheck the Allow my organization to manage my device option and click No, sign in to this app only.
During installation, or when you first run a Microsoft 365 application, you may be prompted to enter an email address and a password. Enter your WVU Login username followed by your domain (@mail.wvu.edu or @hsc.wvu.edu) when asked for an email address and use your Login password for the password.
Troubleshooting:
If you receive a Microsoft 365 Activation Problem (0x80070005) error when attempting to Sign In, please try to right-click the program icon, select Run As Administrator and try to sign in again.
