GlobalProtect Issues with macOS Big Sur

Users should avoid installing the newest Mac operating system, macOS Big Sur, when it is released. Anyone who upgrades to macOS Big Sur while having GlobalProtect (remote VPN) installed will lose their networking connection, and possibly other services like Wi-Fi, AirDrop and Bluetooth.

To restore these services, users must uninstall their current version of GlobalProtect then reinstall a compatible version from remote.wvu.edu

Uninstall GlobalProtect

Follow these instructions to uninstall GlobalProtect if you have no network connection:

  1. Open Terminal.

  2. Type the following and press return:

    sudo /Applications/GlobalProtect.app/Contents/Resources/uninstall_gp.sh

This text must be entered exactly as it appears above; note the space before the first forward slash.

  3. Enter your password.

Reinstall GlobalProtect

  1. Go to remote.wvu.edu.

  2. Select GlobalProtect Agent

  3. Select Download Mac 32/64 bit GlobalProtect agent
