Microsoft 365 Mobile for Apple and Android Devices

Current WVU students, current employees and emeritus employees are entitled to install Microsoft 365 Mobile on their Apple iPhone/iPad or Android devices through our Microsoft 365 license. 

Steps to install Microsoft 365 Mobile on an Apple iPhone or iPad

Visit Microsoft's System Requirements page for information about supported Apple devices. 

1. Go to the App Store.

2. Search for the apps you wish to install. For example, search for Microsoft Word.

3. Tap Free or Get next to the app and then tap Install.

4. Provide your iTunes password and then tap OK.

5. Tap Open then Sign In.

6. Enter your WVU Login username followed by @mail.wvu.edu or @hsc.wvu.edu when asked for an email address or username and use your Login password for the password. Although WVU student email addresses end in @mix.wvu.edu, students should use @mail.wvu.edu for Microsoft 365. This is a special username for activating your license, and is not an email address that can be used elsewhere.

7. Tap Sign In. If you are prompted with Stay signed in to all apps options, uncheck the Allow my organization to manage my device option and tap No, sign in to this app only.  

Additional information about installing OneNote: 

If you install Microsoft OneNote, the app may ask for credentials for a separate account in which to store notes. For students, this can potentially be a personal Microsoft OneDrive account that can be created through Microsoft.

Faculty and staff wishing to connect OneNote to their WVU OneDrive for Business space will need to log in with a personal Microsoft account before being able to access the Settings and Accounts menus, which allow for the addition of an Microsoft 365 account and connection to OneDrive for Business.  

Steps to install Microsoft 365 Mobile on an Android phone

Please note that due to variances among manufacturers and models of Android devices, the steps on this page may differ from what you experience. Visit Microsoft's System Requirements page for information about supported Android devices. 

1. Open the Google Play / Play Store on your Android device.

2. Search for "microsoft 356 mobile" and then select Microsoft 365 Mobile from the results on the Apps page.

3. Tap INSTALL.

4. Review the items shown and then tap ACCEPT.

5. Tap OPEN.

6. Review the Use Terms and then tap Accept.

7. Tap the arrow key four times to advance through the informational screens.

8. Tap Get started.

9. Enter your WVU Login username followed by @mail.wvu.edu or @hsc.wvu.edu when asked for an email address or username and use your Login password for the password. Although WVU student email addresses end in @mix.wvu.edu, students should use @mail.wvu.edu for Microsoft 365. This is a special username for activating your license, and is not an email address that can be used elsewhere.

OneNote for Android may require the creation and use of a separate, personal Microsoft account to allow initial sign in. Faculty and staff wishing to connect OneNote to their WVU OneDrive for Business space will need to log in with a personal Microsoft account before being able to access the Settings and Accounts menus, which allow for the addition of a Microsoft 365 account and connection to OneDrive for Business.

Steps to install Microsoft 365 Mobile on an Android tablet

Visit Microsoft's System Requirements page for information about supported Android devices. 

1. Open the Google Play store and search for the Microsoft app you want to install. 

2. After installing the app, swipe through the introductory screens and then tap Sign In. 

3. Enter your WVU Login username followed by @mail.wvu.edu or @hsc.wvu.edu when asked for an email address or username and use your Login password for the password. Although WVU student email addresses end in @mix.wvu.edu, students should use @mail.wvu.edu for Microsoft 365. This is a special username for activating your license, and is not an email address that can be used elsewhere.

2. Enter your WVU Login username followed by @mail.wvu.edu or @hsc.wvu.edu when asked for an email address or username and use your Login password for the password. Although WVU student email addresses end in @mix.wvu.edu, students should use @mail.wvu.edu for Microsoft 365. This is a special username for activating your license, and is not an email address that can be used elsewhere.

If you are repeatedly prompted for your username and password, please try creating and using a separate Microsoft personal account and authenticating with it. This account also provides students with cloud-based space through Microsoft's personal OneDrive system.

Faculty and staff wishing to connect OneNote to their WVU OneDrive for Business space will need to log in with a personal Microsoft account before being able to access the Settings and Accounts menus, which allow for the addition of a Microsoft 365 account and connection to OneDrive for Business.
