Setting Up Outlook on iOS - Microsoft 365 Mailbox Protection
To protect organizational email data on mobile devices, Information Technology Services (ITS), Student Financial Services, Payroll, and IT staff for other WVU departments and colleges have protection policies ensuring WVU mailboxes are only accessible through the Outlook app or Outlook Web Access (OWA). Follow these instructions to install the Outlook mobile app if you are part of these groups.
For more information about this initiative, policy settings or troubleshooting, read the Outlook Protection Policy article.
Instructions for iOS (iPhone/iPad)
If you already have Outlook installed, you may be prompted to install Microsoft Authenticator on your phone. If this is the case, skip to step 4 below and proceed from there.
Install the Outlook app from the App Store.
Open the Outlook app and enter your WVU email address to add an account.
Tap Active Directory and log in with your WVU Login credentials.
If not already installed, you will be prompted to install the Microsoft Authenticator app. Tap Get the App to open the App Store and install the app.
Open the Microsoft Authenticator app and sign in with your WVU Login credentials.
Authenticate with Duo two-factor.
If you are asked to register your device, tap Register and follow the prompts.
After restarting Outlook, you will see a notification reading that your IT administrator is now protecting data in this app. Tap OK.
Set a security PIN, as requested.
Note: PIN must not contain repeated numbers or sequences, e.g. "1234" or "1111"
After setting a PIN, you are asked if you want to use biometrics (TouchID or FaceID) if available. Make a choice to complete setup.
