Differences Between STAR (Banner) INB and SSB

STAR INB and STAR SSB are used to distinguish the front-end and back-end of the STAR (Banner) system.

What's the difference between STAR (or Banner) INB and STAR (or Banner) SSB?

STAR and Banner are often used interchangeably. Banner is Ellucian's (the vendor's) name for the system and STAR (Students and Technology Achieving Results) is what WVU calls the system.

STAR INB (Internet Native Banner) is the back-end of the system and is used by authorized administrators and staff to access student records through forms. It is sometimes called the 'back-office' banner system. The Banner Document Management Suite (BDMS) is integrated into STAR INB. To request access to the STAR INB forms and reports, read the procedure here

STAR SSB (Self Service Banner) is the front-end of the system. Through STAR SSB, a student can view their student record, add or drop courses, access their transcripts and more. STAR SSB is usually referred to as simply STAR or STAR Web. Active students, faculty and advisors can access STAR SSB through the WVU Portal. Former students should read our STAR Information for Former Students article.
