Respondus LockDown Browser for eCampus Students

Respondus LockDown Browser for eCampus Students

Respondus LockDown Browser (RLDB) is a locked browser for taking tests in eCampus (Blackboard). It prevents test takers from printing, copying, going to another URL or accessing other applications during a test. You must install RLDB on your computer to access tests or quizzes in eCampus.

Students taking exams in SOLE must download the SOLE compatible LockDown Browser. View Install the SOLE LockDown Browser for instructions.

Install LockDown Browser

WVU students can download the LockDown Browser from the Respondus LockDown Browser website. Click Download and follow the installation prompts. View the resources below for more information.

Install the LockDown Browser on a Chromebook

K12 students who are in dual enrollment (High school access) at WVU and use Chromebooks managed by K12 can use RLDB in eCampus.

  1. Log into the Chromebook and open the Chrome browser.

  2. Log into eCampus using your student account and navigate to the exam that requires LockDown Browser.

  3. Select the link for downloading and installing LockDown Browser. This will open the Chrome web store.

  4. Select Add to Chrome to install the LockDown Browser Extension

If you encounter an error when downloading RLDB for Chromebook, this issue is likely occurring because the ChromeOS version on the Chromebook is outdated. To fix this error, follow these steps:

  1. Select Settings and click About ChromeOS to check the version of ChromeOS on your Chromebook.

  2. Keep your Chromebook updated to the most recently available version via Google’s ChromeOS Stable channel. If your Chromebook cannot be updated to meet the minimum requirements for RLDB, you will need to use a different device for an exam or quiz that requires RLDB. View the RLDB compatibility requirements page for more information.

Respondus Monitor

The Respondus Monitor is a part of the Respondus LockDown Browser that enables web cam functionality during exams. Instructors may enable the Respondus Monitor for exams that are taken using the Respondus LockDown Browser.

Learn more about installing and using Respondus Monitor with the Using LockDown Browser with a Webcam guide.

Respondus Monitor troubleshooting

Most technical issues are encountered during the pre-exam “Startup Sequence” of Respondus Monitor, where the webcam/microphone check occurs. Use the It’s not working feature in Respondus Monitor to troubleshoot any issues. If you are unable to resolve the problem, use the Chat now option to access live chat support. The 24/7 live chat functionality can also be accessed through the Help Center in Respondus Monitor.
