eCampus Testing: Best Practices for Students

This article provides information for bests practices for students when taking tests in the eCampus environment.

Test Taking Preparations

  • Complete a Browser CheckThe Browser Check should be completed in the browser you will be using to take your exam.

  • Connect to a wired high-speed internet connection. A wired connection is recommended for strong, and stable internet.  WIFI signals can very and may cause a student’s session to drop unexpectedly.

  • Ensure your device is protected by anti-virus software. WVU provides Sophos antivirus software for free. Make sure this software is installed and up to date.

  • Take a practice test. If your instructor has provided a practice test; make sure you access it prior to the start date on the device, you plan to use.

During Test Taking

  • Close all other programs, applications, or tabs running on your device. To minimize the risk of a test session being interrupted, other processes running in the background, such as streaming services, music, movies, e-mail should be closed.

  • Set aside a time free from distractions to take the test. Most tests can only be accessed once.

  • Click the test link only once.  Do not double click or click on test link multiple times.

  • Carefully read the test instructions. Each test may be set up differently. When accessing the test, you will first be presented with the instructions page listing the test options and expectations.  Familiarize yourself with the provided information before beginning the test.

  • Do not use the browser navigation buttons.  These buttons will cause the test to be automatically submitted if force completion is enabled. Always use the buttons within the test page to navigate, save, and submit.

  • Click Next or Save buttons only once.  eCampus has an automatic save function that runs in the background during a test. Clicking these buttons more than once can slow down test loading and cause errors.

  • Click the Submit button only once when you are finished with the test. It may take several moments for your test to be submitted.   When your test has submitted, you will receive an on-screen confirmation.

After Test Taking

  • View Test Feedback and Grades. After successfully submitting your test, use the Global Navigation Menu which is located in the upper right-hand corner of the page to check your grades.  Keep in mind that, if the test contained question types other than multiple choices, true/false, or matching, your test will need to be manually graded by your instructor before you can see your grade. Contact your instructor for details regarding grade availability.

  • Always Logout. Use the Logout button to conclude your sessions in eCampus.

After Experiencing a Problem

  • If you experience issues with a test, contact your instructor immediately. Be sure to provide your instructor with as many details about the problem as possible. For example, the name of the test, the date and time, any error message you received, or if you experienced a technical even such as internet outage.

  • eCampus admins cannot reset exams for students without prior direct permission from the instructor.
