Observer Role in eCampus
The Observer role allows student athletic advisors a limited course view to track student progress. To obtain the Observer role, an athletic advisor cannot have any other active role (ongoing courses) in eCampus, e.g., instructor, course builder, teaching assistant, or student.
Accessing the Observer Dashboard
Log in to eCampus as an Observer.
Click Tools, listed near the bottom of the Base Navigation.
Click Observer.
Click the student’s username to go to the Observer Dashboard Details and list all courses for the selected student.
Click the chevron icon to the right of the Course Name.
Click Observe to access the course.
Observers only have access to specific tools within a course, and these tools are only available if the instructor has provided a link on the left navigation menu and set the course to Permit Observer.
WVU is migrating eCampus from Blackboard Original to Blackboard Ultra. Observers have access to different tools within Original and Ultra courses.

What will I see as the instructor of a student being observed?
Instructors will notice that the Users option under Users and Groups has a column titled Observer. The athletic advisor’s username will show in the Observer column for any student they are observing.
