ITS Recommendations for Windows 11

Information Technology Services has recommended that faculty, staff and students who use personally owned Windows computers for course work or university work to avoid installing the new Windows 11 operating system until further notice.

Upgrade Delay:

The Windows 11 upgrade will be delayed for West Virginia University-owned computers until ITS has tested and confirmed the compatibility of commonly used staff and student services and applications. If you are an employee at WVU, you should not attempt to update university-owned or managed machines until given direction to do so. This includes computers managed by HSC ITS.

Windows 10 is supported until October 2025, so there is no urgency to upgrade to Windows 11.

Windows 11 Support:

ITS does not provide support for personal computers. If you have upgraded to Windows 11 and are experiencing complications, visit Microsoft Support for directions outlining how to reinstall Windows 10.
