HSC VPN Migration Instructions (Public)
WVU ITS and HSC ITS are rebuilding a tool called Active Directory (AD), which determines what resources faculty and staff can access based on their roles at the University.  The teams will be separating these two Active Directory systems to give HSC more independence on system changes. Â
If you work remotely and access WVU resources using a Windows computer and the HSC VPN software (Global Protect), you will need to follow these instructions before Monday, March 27  to complete the migration of your remote computer.
If you have any problems during this process, please contact the HSC Help Desk at 304-293-3631 option 1. Â
Open File Explorer. Navigate to c:\Migrate and make sure you see two files in this folder: Update-gpo and Migrate-VPN. If you do not see this folder, contact the HSC Help Desk at 304-293-3631, option 1.Â
Run Update-gpo. You will see a Command Prompt box while your settings are being updated. When it finishes running, restart your computer.Â
After rebooting, verify that you see the Global Protect icon in the lower right-hand corner of the startup screen.Â
Click the Global Protect icon and enter your HSC login credentials. Press Enter or click the arrow to continue.Â
Allow the Duo two-factor authentication prompt. You WON’T see a prompt on the screen, so you will need to check whichever device you have set up for Duo. It will then connect to the VPN. When it connects to Global Protect, the icon will change.Â
Once connected, click Back. You can then can log in. This will restart your computer, so be sure you have saved any open documents.Â
After logging in, navigate back to c:\Migrate and run Migrate-VPN. After launching the application, you will get a message about opening the file. Click Run to allow the application to execute.Â
You will receive a message about the ForensIT user profile wizard. Click Yes.
You will see the following screen while the program is running.
After your machine reboots, you must connect to the VPN before you can log in with your HSAD domain account. Log in to VPN as you did in the previous steps at the startup screen. Confirm your files stored in Desktop and Documents are in place.Â
