Grading Assignments & Tests in eCampus Ultra
In eCampus Ultra, you will see submitted assignments right in the gradebook.
Blackboard Anthology Help: Grading - Grade Student Submissions
Grades from eCampus Navigation
On the Grades tab of the main eCampus navigation page, you’ll see all of your courses. Any courses where you are an instructor will show a list of gradable items, with the status of each. Click the ‘number to grade’ link to begin grading submissions for that item.
Clicking the item in the Grades page list will take you to the Gradebook list of submissions for this item. The Submissions list is actually built into the assignment or test - as a tab at the top of the item itself. You can access the submissions to be graded from anywhere you can open the item - content area, gradebook, or Grades navigation list.
The Submissions list shows all enrolled students, the status of their submission for this assignment, the grading status, the actual grade, and the posting status of the grade. When you need to grade a submitted assignment, the Grading Status column will show, 1 attempt to grade. Click on the link to review and grade the submission.
Grading Items from the Grade Center
List View
The Gradebook list view shows all Gradable Items for the course. Click on one to be taken to the item’s Submissions tab, just like you would see from the Grades navigation page.
Grid View
The Gradebook grid view shows a spreadsheet where you’ll see rows of students and columns for each graded item in the course. Each cell holds a student’s score on a particular assessment. From the grid view, you can click Grade Now > View to open a new submission for grading.
Grading Essay Answer Questions
For an essay type question on a quiz or test, clicking the 1 attempt to grade link will open the student’s quiz paper, with any auto-graded questions (multiple choice, fill in the blank, matching, etc.) displaying a score already. A feedback panel on the right allows you to provide notes the student will see when the grade is posted. Questions that require manual grading will not have a grade yet.
Open the student’s submission for this test or assignment.
From the content item’s Submissions list: click 1 attempt to grade.
From the Gradebook grid/spreadsheet view: click Grade Now.
Scroll through the test to view all auto-graded questions' scores and locate the questions which require manual grading.
In the example image, question 4 is an essay question. Review the student’s Answer below the question.
Compare the content of the student's answer to the Example of a correct response that you supplied when the test question was written.
Click in the score bubble above the question to enter a score for the student’s answer.
Click outside the bubble or press Enter to save the score.
If you want to share Feedback for the student, click in the panel on the right to provide comments about the essay question or the whole test. Formatting options allow you to include links and other content in the feedback.
Save any feedback you have entered.
Once all manually graded questions are complete, the overall test score will be appear at the top of the submission. Close (X) the individual student submission to return to the item’s Submissions list.
If this test/assignment is set to require manual grade posting (you did not select to post grades automatically), a button to Post 1 grade will now appear in the Post column.
You can post each student’s grade separately or click the Post all grades button at the top of the Submissions list.
Grading Rubrics
In eCampus Ultra, rubrics can be used with assessments that have only text content included (you cannot place any ‘questions’ on the test canvas). There are other ways to provide feedback and align assessments to standards and goals for the various question types, but rubrics are only available if the assessment does not have questions - just a text box containing instructions…and/or questions… for the student to follow or answer.

Goals & Standards
Align tests or assignments with WVU’s list of content standards and learning goals as a guide for course assessments. When creating an assessment, you will find this option in the Settings panel. Click the link to view and search the institution’s many goals and standards. You can also request to have the eCampus team add a new set of goals for your course. Goals & standards can be useful guides for students and instructors where rubrics cannot be applied, too.
