ProctorU with SOLE

Create your exam in SOLE

Exams within SOLE must include the following settings:

  • Exam Name

  • Password

  • Availability

  • Due Date

  • Time limit

  • DO NOT enable secure LockDown Browser

  • Advanced Reporting Levels (use with caution)<

Additionally, you must let HSC ITS know if there are any student accommodations for the exam.

Schedule your Exam in ProctorU

IMPORTANT!

Your SOLE exam settings must match your ProctorU exam settings. We recommend scheduling your exams as soon as possible. You can continue to modify your exam questions. Final modifications MUST be complete and the exam set to the released publish status prior to the exam being launched.

To begin, login to the ProctorU scheduling system

Please note there is Live Chat available in ProctorU throughout the exam process.

Exam Settings

  1. Click the ADD NEW button in the top-right area of the page. From the drop-down, select Exam.

  2. Give your exam a Name including the course rubric, number, title, instructor name, and specific exam:
    “NSGXXX - Course Title - Exam Name”
    Always keep your exam names consistent in both SOLE and ProctorU.

  3. Enter your Course Number (e.g., CHLH 101).

  4. For Department, select “Fully Live” or “Live Launch Record and Professional Review”.

  5. Incident Users is for sending notifications to additional users, outside of the institutional administrators, when an incident occurs during a test-taker's session. Only institutional users, who are not institutional administrators and who are also listed as contactable within the incident report center.

Instructor

For Instructor, select your designated name from the drop-down.

Configuration

  1. Select the proper Term for the exam.

  2. Enter the whole number of minutes for Duration. This should match the SOLE timelimit.

  3. For Exam URL, copy and paste the URL for the LMS that the exam is housed in. In our case you should paste https://sole.hsc.wvu.edu/

  4. For Exam password, list the same password that will be set on the exam in SOLE. DO NOT distribute the exam password to students. ProctorU will assist in the student login. 

  5. No Template should be selected.

  6. Please check all Permitted resources or no resources allowed if the answer to all is No.

  7. All Permitted browsers can be selected.

  8. Note any Other resources you wish the proctor to know is allowed.

  9. For Expected No. of Test Takers, enter a rough estimate for the number of students you anticipate to take the exam through ProctorU (your best guess is sufficient).

  10. Add any Additional exam notes. For example, we have used by the request of the instructor:

    1. Slowly scan four corners of computer with mirror so instructor can also review.

    2. The exam area should be thoroughly scanned including floor in front of desk by computer and full area of desk.

    3. The student should remove all items from desk other than 1 scratch piece of paper and student’s computer. If items are not removed they must be covered so nothing is visible on it and show the proctor no items on the desk can be seen that are not permitted (scratch and computer).

    4. The student must show the proctor both sides of the scratch paper prior to exam to ensure no writing is present.

    5. The calculator the test taker is allowed to use is included in the exam interface (sole.hsc.wvu.edu). No other calculator are allowed.

  11. Add anyone you wish to be Notified on exams being scheduled by students.

  12. Contact Info for Exam Issues can be determined between faculty and HSC ITS.
