Define Poll Settings in SOLE

Poll Settings Overview

  1. General Tab

    • Basic Settings: Define the poll title (required), optional time limit for questions, and the option to limit access to the internal campus network (HSC campus only). Access limitations cannot be modified once the poll is released.

    • Poll Details: Add an optional description, assign a contributor, choose one category (predefined in the Control Panel), and add relevant tags (which may be predefined in the Control Panel).

    • Location Information: Specify the delivery location for the poll.

    • Calendar Settings: Select the date/time the poll appears on the Content Calendar and the What’s New list. This does not affect the actual availability of the poll. Availability settings must be set from the Availability tab.

  2. Availability Tab

    • Publish Options:

      • Draft: The poll is in design and hidden from students.

      • Released: The poll is available, but students cannot answer questions until they are asked.

      • Closed: Students can no longer participate in the poll, which remains visible in red as a closed poll.

    • Time Restrictions:

      • Release Date: Set when the poll becomes available for questions.

      • Expiration Date: Set when the poll is no longer available or visible to students.

  3. Access Controls Tab

    • Restrict poll access based on the course user list and/or specific roles. For more details, see Access Control help pages.

  4. Gradebook Tab

    • Linking to Gradebook: Required for poll grades to be imported into the Gradebook.

      • Check Link to gradebook and use the dropdown to create a new assignment or attach the poll to an existing assignment.

      • For new assignments:

        • Gradebook Group: If the Gradebook is grouped, select the group for the poll assignment.

        • Partial Credit Options: For answering polling questions, regardless if they were correct or incorrect, the drop-down menu can be used to award 25%, 50%, 75%, and 100% of the points, even if they were incorrect. Select 100% in order to award full points for participation. Leave it at the default, 0%, if they should only receive points for correct answers.

        • Is Used in Calculations: Exclude the poll grade from final grade calculations by unchecking this box.

        • Is Extra Credit: Check this box to designate the poll as extra credit. The Is Used in Calculations box must be checked for extra credit.

      • Attach to Existing Assignment: If the assignment already exists in the Gradebook, select “Attach to existing gradebook assignment” and choose the assignment.

      • Detaching from Gradebook: If needed, detach the poll from the Gradebook via the Gradebook tab. The assignment and grades will remain in the Gradebook but without linkage. Fully remove by deleting the assignment from the Gradebook itself.

  5. Advanced Settings Tab

    • Student Reporting Levels: Define the information users can view after answering polling questions or reviewing closed polls (excluding expired polls). Choosing all reporting levels provides full question visibility.

    • Reporting Options:

      • Show Overall Score

      • Question

      • Question Point Value

      • Answers

      • Question Stats
