Connect MIX Gmail to Outlook 2016 for Mac
Students and faculty who have Outlook 2016 for Mac may wish to connect it to their MIX Gmail accounts. It is important to note that this approach is not formally supported, and the information in this article is supplied as a courtesy to our users who may wish to try this on their own. Users wishing to do this must allow external access to their MIX Gmail and then configure the settings in Outlook.
How to allow external access to Gmail
Log into your MIX Gmail account.
Click the settings gear icon and choose Settings.
Go to the Forwarding and POP/IMAP tab, select the option to enable IMAP, and then click Save Changes.
Click your picture avatar in the upper-right corner of the screen and then select My Account.
Choose Sign-in & security and locate the "Allow less secure apps" option.
Review the information provided on this option and turn it on if you wish to continue.
How to configure Outlook 2016 for Mac
Open Outlook 2016 for Mac.
Click Tools and select Accounts.
Click the + in the lower-right of the Accounts window and then choose Other Email.
Enter your MIX email address in the E-mail address field and your Login password in the Password field.
Enter your MIX email address in the User name space and then confirm Type is set to "IMAP."
Enter " imap.gmail.com" for Incoming server.
Place a check in Use SSL to connect and confirm the number next to the server name shows "993."
Enter "smtp.gmail.com" for Outgoing server.
Place a check in Use SSL to connect and confirm the number next to the server name shows "465."
Click Add Account.
