WVU Refunds (Nelnet) (Public)
WVU Student Financial Services uses Nelnet to process refunds. Using Nelnet, student and parent borrowers can set up and view their refund preference (electronic or paper), view their refund status, view where the refund is being sent, and view refund history.Â
Accessing Nelnet
Student Borrowers
Students access Nelnet through the WVU Portal:Â
Log into the WVU Portal with your WVU Login credentials.Â
Click Setup Refund Preference in the WVU Resources panel to access Nelnet.
Click Student or Parent Borrower. Â
Parent Borrowers
Parent borrowers will receive an email to the email address they have on file with Student Financial Services. Parents who are WVUÂ employees will need to use a personal email address on file with Student Financial Services to create an account. Use the following instructions to create an account to access Nelnet:
Click the link in the email to accept the invitation to create your account.Â
Agree to the Terms of Service by clicking the check box, then click the Parent Login button.Â
On the Account Management page, enter your first name, last name, and the email address where you received the invitation, then click Create.Â
After receiving confirmation that you have activated your account, click Continue.Â
Note: Your account ID for logging into Nelnet is your entire email address.ÂOn the West Virginia University Guest Invitation screen, you'll see your details and another confirmation that your registration is successful. Click the link on the bottom of this screen or in the email confirmation to access the Nelnet login screen.Â
After creating an account, use the following instructions to log into Nelnet:Â
Click the link on the West Virginia University Guest Invitation screen, or the link you received in the email confirmation after completing your registration.Â
Click Student or Parent Borrower.
Enter the email address associated with the account you created and password.Â
On the Request Refund screen, select the student you wish to manage refund preferences for.Â
Manage refund preferences for the chosen student.Â
Log out, close and re-open the browser, then log back in to choose another student (if needed).Â
Note: Do not click the back button or navigate back to choose another student. You will need to log out, close your browser completely, then log in again to access the other student account.Â
Troubleshooting Access to Nelnet
Students
If you can't log into the WVU Portal to access Nelnet, troubleshoot your WVU Login credentials.Â
If your Login credentials are correct, try clearing your browser cache or using a new browser.Â
Parents
Be sure to set up your account using the email address where you received the invitation email. Â
If you are interrupted while setting up your account or forget your password, click the link in the invitation email to access the account setup screen. From here you can either set up your account (if you haven't yet done so) or recover your password.Â
If you forgot your password, click the forgot password? link on the log in screen. Once you reset your password, return to the log in screen by clicking the link in the account registration confirmation email and log in with your new password.Â
After logging into Nelnet clicking back or navigating backward to choose another student will not work. Please log out of Nelnet, completely close/re-open your browser, then log in again to choose another student.Â
After creating an account, if you receive the error "Account Not Invited" after logging in, click the link in the original invitation email, then click Continue and log in with the account you created (using your full email address as the user ID). If you are still receiving an error, contact the ITS Service Desk. Â
