Science DMZ (REX)
The WVU Research Exchange (REX) is a Science DMZ, or demilitarized zone, which is a dedicated "express lane" network for research data traffic within WVU's larger network. It is funded through a cyber infrastructure grant from the National Science Foundation. REX gives ITS the ability to separate research traffic from other internet traffic, guarantee high-speed Internet2 access for researchers, and facilitate data exchanges with off-campus collaborators. Researchers also have greater access to off-campus resources such as national scientific supercomputing centers.
REX currently enables high-performance data flows to and from these locations:
Neuroscience lab at HSC,
HPC center in Chemistry Research Lab annex of Clark Hall
Astrophysics HPC at White Hall
Life Sciences Genomics Lab
STEM Lab at Allen Hall
National Radio Astronomy Observatory at Green Bank
WVU's off-campus Internet2 connection.
REX was built with the ability to expand to other locations. To request access or have a question, please submit a ticket using the Research Computing service.
How to access the WVU Research Exchange (REX):
Researchers must request access to REX. Request access through the Research Computing service.
