Submit and Review SOLE Assignments
The Assignments tool is an interactive area where instructors can post assignments and attach any necessary files for students to access. Students can view the assignment details and submit their responses via file attachments or text entries, depending on the instructor’s setup.
Once submitted, instructors have the option to grade assignments directly in SOLE, download files, review text submissions, enter scores, and provide individual feedback for each student. Once your instructor begins grading your assignment, you can no longer upload additional files, update, or make changes to your entry—even if the grade has not yet been released.
Access assignments
To access Assignments, go to Assessment in the Left Navigation and then click on Assignments. Assignments may also appear in sequence within Content, depending on your instructor's settings.
Types of assignments
No Submission Required: Used for directions only; no electronic submission is required.
Single Submission: Allows one upload. You may delete this entry to submit a new one by clicking the "Delete This Submission" button, updating the submission date and time to the latest entry.
Multiple Submissions: Allows unlimited entries. Submissions appear in order, with the most recent at the top.
View assignment instructions and grading rubric
If provided, instructions or directions appear at the top.
If the instructor uses a rubric, view it by clicking Review the Grading Rubric. Note: the rubric may not be visible if the instructor has restricted access to it.
Assignment Deadlines: Due dates and times are displayed at the top, along with the instructor’s policy on late submissions. If late entries are not accepted, the Assignment Entry field will close once the due date passes.
Assignment Status Indicators:
Submitted: Orange text below the assignment indicates a submission that hasn’t yet been graded.
Graded: Green text shows that your submission has been graded.
No Submission: Assignments without submissions have no status text.
Due Soon: Red text with a countdown appears for assignments due within 30 minutes.
Past Due: Red text warns "Due date has passed!" if the assignment deadline is missed without submission.
Submit an assignment
Assignment Text Field: Use the text editor to type and format your response.
Uploading Files: Attach files up to 250 MB. Multiple files are permitted. For file upload assistance, see the Uploading Files into SOLE page.
Embedding Videos: To embed a YouTube video, use the "YouTube" button on the HTML toolbar. Paste the video’s URL or embed code, select a start time if desired, and save.
After submitting an assignment, click Get Submission Receipt to confirm successful submission. The submission receipt will list the assignment text and any attached files.
