If you have had a name change and your new name is not reflected in the Microsoft Teams desktop app after 48 hours, verify whether your new name is displayed in the Teams web app. If your name change is displayed in the web app, use the steps below to clear your Teams client cache data. 

Verifying Your Name Change

  1. Log into Microsoft 365 web app.

  2. Launch the Microsoft Teams web app.

  3. Verify that your display name has been changed.

    • If your display name is updated in the Teams app, continue to the next section of "Clearing Teams Cache Data" for the current operating system.

    • If your display name did not change in the app, contact the ITS Service Desk for further support.

Clearing Teams Cache Data on Windows

  1. Close Microsoft Teams.

  2. Open File Explorer.

  3. Copy and paste the following folder location into the search bar: 

    %appdata%\Microsoft\Teams

  4. Delete the contents of the entire folder.

  5. Restart Microsoft Teams.

Clearing Teams Cache Data on MacOS

  1. Close Microsoft Teams.

  2. Open Finder.

  3. Click Go in the Finder menu bar.

  4. Select Go to Folder.

  5. Copy and paste the following folder location into the dialogue box: 

    ​​​​​​​/Library/Application Support/Microsoft/Teams

  6. Delete the folder.

  7. Restart Microsoft Teams.
