Below are common questions Potomac State College employees may have about setting up their Cisco phone or voicemail.
How do I request a new phone?
Use the New Telephone and Voicemail Account service page to submit your request.
How do I enroll and set up my voicemail?
Press the mail button or dial 26900 on your desk phone, or dial 9-304-929-0329 from outside campus.
If you are calling from another phone within your organization or from outside your organization, press * (star key) when Connection answers.
Respond as prompted. You do not need to refer to any Connection documentation during enrollment. The system will tell you when the enrollment process is complete.
Typically, Connection is set up so you hear the first-time enrollment conversation when you call the system for the first time. If you hang up before you have enrolled completely, the first-time enrollment conversation plays again the next time you sign in to Connection. The first-time enrollment conversation is a set of prerecorded prompts that guide you as you do the following tasks:
Record your name.
Record a greeting that outside callers hear when you do not answer your phone.
Change your PIN. (Temporary PIN is 26726.)
Choose whether to be listed in the directory. (When you are listed in the directory, callers who do not know your extension can reach you by spelling or saying your name.)
Typically, your Connection administrator gives you an ID (your 5 digit extension) and a temporary PIN (26726).
At any time after enrollment, you can re-record your name and greeting or change your PIN and directory listing status.
How do I know if I have any new messages?
There are three indicators of new messages:
A red light on the handset
An envelope icon next to your extension number on the phone's screen display
"You have voicemail" will appear at the bottom of the display
What is the default voicemail password for Potomac State College?
The default password for PSC is 267261.
How can I check my voicemail messages?
You can check new and saved messages in your Cisco Unity Connection mailbox by phone or in the email application. You either can save or delete messages during message playback or after you listen to an entire message. Ask your Connection administrator if the system is set up to enforce a message-retention policy and, if so, how long it stores your messages before permanently deleting them.
Connection does not indicate when a message-retention policy is enforced, nor does it warn you before messages are permanently deleted as a result of such a policy.
Check your messages using the phone keypad:
Call and sign in to Connection.
From an on campus telephone, press the messages button or dial 26900.
From off campus, dial 304-788-6900. If you are calling from a phone other than your campus phone, press the * (star key) when Connection answers.
If prompted, enter your ID and press # (pound key).
Enter your Connection PIN and press #.
At the Main menu, select the applicable menu option:
Review Old Messages or Play New Messages for messages in your Connection mailbox.
Play External Messages for messages in your email application.
Follow the prompts to listen to and manage your messages.
Check your messages in the email application:
Voice messages and receipts typically appear in a separate folder in your email application. Messages contain a WAV file attachment with the recording. You play a voice message by opening the attachment.
Your email application may notify you of new voice messages in the same way that it notifies you of new email messages.
Can I listen to my messages from another phone or off-campus?
Yes, follow these steps to access your messages from an off-campus location:
Dial 304-788-6900
When the system answers, Press the * key.
When prompted to enter your ID, enter your telephone extension. This should be 2 + the last 4 digits of your 10 digit phone number (for example, 2-6970).
Press the # key.
Enter your voicemail security code.
Press the # key
How do I set up voicemail to email?
Submit a ticket to connect your voicemail and email address.
How long are voicemail messages retained?
Saved messages are retained for 30 days, after which they are moved to the Deleted messages folder. Deleted messages are also moved to the deleted messages folder. After 2 days in the deleted messages folder, messages are permanently deleted.
If you accidentally delete a message, you can retrieve it by using the menu options to listen to old messages and then follow the prompts to access deleted messages. You can use this method to move the message back to the saved messages folder.
