ITS provides print and file services to assist with your work but must deal with limited resources. You can help conserve resources by making sure the files kept on the Enterprise file servers in your J: and N: drives are business related, especially multimedia files such as .AVI, .GIF, .JPG, .MPEG, .MP4, .MOV, .VOB, .DV and .MP3 files.
How can I help?
Systems Engineering periodically checks the shared drives for voluminous files and/or files with particular extensions. Multimedia files can be legitimate business files but do take up considerable space on our storage systems, so please make sure:
The files are for business purposes.
You need them available online.
They comply with federal copyright laws.
If the files do not meet these criteria, please remove them immediately. If you need occasional access to them, consider archiving them to CD-ROM or other storage media. Future reports of questionable files stored on network drives will be submitted to directors for appropriate action. Departments consuming storage for personal files may be charged for their usage.
