TIDs and Calling Cards

Telephone Identification Numbers (TID) or Calling Cards allow faculty and staff to make business-related international distance calls, send faxes from an office phone or fax machine, and have the charge billed appropriately.

Faculty and staff with reason to conduct University business by telephone may obtain a TID through their departments. There are no personal TIDs for staff or faculty members. Telecommunications recommends that you purchase your own calling card for personal use.

How do I request a TID or Calling Card?

Submit the ITS Telephone Assistance form. Because TID requests have to be sent to an outside vendor, please allow up to two weeks to receive a TID.

How do I use my TID or Calling Card?

Faculty and staff only need to enter their TID when placing long-distance fax calls, calls to international numbers or long-distance calls from non-Cisco phones.

  1. When you place a call from a 293 number, dial 8 plus the area code and phone number. Do not dial "1" before the area code.

  2. When the voice instructs you to enter your security code, enter your full 8-digit TID. The call should go through.
