Backup and Restore Duo Account

The Duo Restore feature within the Duo Mobile app lets you connect your existing Duo account to a new smartphone or tablet. If you get a new device, you won’t have to go through the Duo setup process again. However, you must have another device associated with your account or backup Duo passcode to set up a new device, even if you have retrieved your account from iCloud or Google Drive.

How do I enable Duo Restore on my current device?

iOS device:

1. Go to your device’s Settings.

2. Tap Passwords & Accounts.

3. Tap iCloud.

4. Tap iCloud Backup and turn it ON.

Android device:

1. Open the Duo Mobile app and tap the menu (three vertical dots).

2. Tap Settings.

3. Tap Duo Restore and turn it ON.

4. Select a Google account to store your backup on.

5. Sign in to your Google account to enable the backup. You will see a notification when Duo Restore setup is complete.

How do I use Duo Restore to recover my account on my new device?

iOS device:

1. Download the Duo Mobile app on your new device and open the app.

2. Tap Reconnect next to your WVU account.

3. After tapping Reconnect, you will be prompted to log in with your WVU credentials and authenticate.

4. You must authenticate using a backup code, Duo token or another phone or tablet that’s associated with your account.

5. After authenticating, your new device will be added to your Duo account.

Android device:

1. Download the Duo Mobile app on your new device and open the app.

2. Tap Get My Account Back.

3. Select the Google account you used when initially setting up Duo Restore.

4. Tap Reconnect next to your WVU account.

5. After tapping Reconnect, you will be prompted to log in with your WVU credentials and authenticate.

6. After authenticating, your new device will be added to your Duo account.
