Activate Your WVU Login Account

If you're new to the University, you must activate your WVU Login account in Okta, WVU’s identity management system, before you’re able to access University resources. You will receive a Welcome to Okta email to your secondary email associated with your account. The email will contain your WVU Login username and a link to activate your account.

If you don’t receive a Welcome to Okta email, view the steps in Activate your account without an email below.

  1. In your Welcome to Okta email, click Activate Okta Account.

  2. Set up your security methods:

    • Okta Verify: Click Set up then Enroll. Follow the prompts to add your device. For more details, view Enroll in Okta Verify.

    • Password:

      1. Click Set up.

      2. Enter your password and click Next.

Shared Users (users with a dual role at WVU Medicine) must update their passwords at wvumedicine.org/login after activating their Okta account to sync their passwords. View the Shared User Login FAQ for more information about account management.

Activate your account without an email

If you don’t have a recovery email address associated with your account, you will not receive a Welcome to Okta email. You can still activate your account at okta.wvu.edu, but you’ll be prompted to verify your identity using the phone number associated with your account.

  1. Go to okta.wvu.edu (login.wvu.edu).

  2. Enter your username and click Next. If you don’t know your username, use the Login/WVUID Lookup.

  3. If you have a phone number associated with your account, you will be prompted to verify your identity through a text message. Click Verify with your phone to receive a code.

You will not be able to verify your identity and activate your account if you don’t have phone number associated with your account. Contact the ITS Service Desk at 304-293-4444 for assistance.

  1. Enter the code and click Verify.

  2. Set up your security methods:

    • Okta Verify: Click Set up then Enroll. Follow the prompts to add your device. For more details, view Enroll in Okta Verify.

    • Password:

      1. Click Set up.

      2. Enter your password and click Next.

Can’t activate your account?

If you exit Okta before completing the activation process, your activation link will be invalidated. To finish activating your account, go to okta.wvu.edu (login.wvu.edu), enter your username, and follow the prompts to finish the activation process.
