Classroom Microphones

All Standard Technology classrooms are equipped with a lectern-mounted gooseneck microphone and additional microphones (hand-held and/or lapel or both) based on room size, configuration, and speaker set-up in the room. In Non-Standard Technology classrooms microphone types and room audio varies.

Wired

Wired microphones are located on top of classroom lecterns.

  • Gooseneck microphone: Adjust these microphones toward your chin and speak several inches away for best reception.

  • Auxiliary microphone input: Locate and open the input panel on top of the multimedia lectern at the front of the classroom then connect a microphone using the XLR jack.

  • Boundary microphone: This microphone is useful for instructors moving behind or beside the lectern. Make sure it is free from obstructions and speak toward its general vicinity.

Wireless

Wireless microphones are located inside the lectern drawer.

  • Lapel microphone: These use two AA batteries. While classrooms are typically stocked with fresh batteries in the back of the drawer, we recommend bringing spare batteries just in case. Clip the microphone to your clothing, preferably six to eight inches below your chin. When you first turn on the microphone a green light will be visible on top of the unit if the batteries are working. If a red light appears, the unit needs new batteries and may not work correctly.

  • Handheld microphone: These use two AA batteries. While classrooms are typically stocked with fresh batteries in the back of the drawer, we recommend bringing spare batteries just in case. Push the switch on the front of the microphone up into the ON position. When speaking, hold the mic about 3 to 4 inches away from your mouth. If the battery indicator shows a low battery, or if the unit will not power on, replace the batteries in the microphone's handle.

How to control microphone volume

Control the microphone’s volume level with the touch panel’s “Mics” volume slide control. You may mute the microphone’s volume by pressing the speaker button below the slider bar.
