Set up Duo Two-Factor Authentication on a Phone or Tablet (Public)
To prepare for set up, make sure you are able to access your device’s app store, and that your phone or tablet has enough storage space to download the Duo Mobile app. You will need access to a computer and have your device in hand to complete setup.
Duo Mobile works with Apple iOS, Google Android, Windows Phone 7, Windows Mobile 8.1 and 10.
How do I set up Duo on my phone?
Go to your phone’s app store and download the free Duo Mobile app. While it is downloading, move on to the next step.
Using your computer, go to a WVU system that requires you to log in using your WVU username and password (e.g., portal.wvu.edu). After entering your credentials, you’ll be prompted with the Duo setup screen. Click Start setup.Â
Select Mobile phone and click Continue.
Select the country that provides cellular service to your phone, then enter your phone number. Make sure that you entered it correctly and click the associated box. Click Continue.
Select your type of phone, then click Continue.
Open the Duo Mobile app on your phone, then click I have Duo Mobile Installed on your computer screen.
Follow the platform-specific instructions on your computer screen to activate Duo Mobile on your phone. Hold your phone’s camera up to the QR code on your computer screen. After scanning the activation code successfully, a green checkmark will appear on your computer screen. Click Continue.
Your phone number will display under ‘My Settings & Devices’. From here, you can change how you send the authentication prompt to your phone. The most convenient option is to automatically send your device a Duo push notification, so you don’t have to manually send yourself a notification every time you try to log in to a WVU system. Once you’ve made your selection, click Continue to Login.
You’re done with setup! Now authenticate with Duo.Â
