Once registration starts for a term, instructors can email a class or a selection of students using STAR.

How to send a class email through STAR: 

  1. Log into into star.wvu.edu.

  2. Select the the Faculty and Advisors  tab.tab

  3. Select the Summary the Class List link, or select the new Faculty Self-Service Home Page link at the top of the page then click Class List

  4. Select the appropriate term and CRN.

  5. Click Summary Class List. The next steps will depend on your class size. You'll see an Email Class link for smaller classes and a Display Email List link for larger classes. 

  6. Click Email Class: A new email window will open in your default email client. Student emails will appear in the BCC section. Compose your message and send the email. 
    Note: If the Email class link doesn't work, please refer to the Unresponsive Link for Small Classes section below.

  7. Click Display Email List: A class list will open on a new page. Copy the list of emails then open your email and create a new message. Paste the list of email addresses in the BCC section of the new email.

  8. Select a specific term or use the Search box to select a course. By default, all courses for all terms will appear in the Course Selection area.

  9. Click on the class you want from the CRN Listing options. This will populate the list of students in that specific class.

  10. Email the entire class by clicking the 'Check all' box, and click the Email icon button.

  11. Email specific students by selecting the check-boxes next to their name, and then click the Email icon button.

A window should open with an Outlook email draft. If you do not see this window pop-up check your Outlook settings. Your Primary Email address will be used by default, and cannot be changed within the Outlook prompt.
