Respondus LockDown Browser (RLDB) is a locked browser for taking tests in eCampus (Blackboard). It prevents test takers from printing, copying, going to another URL or accessing other applications during a test. You will need to install RLDB on your computer to use it to access tests or quizzes in eCampus - click the download link below to get started.
K12 students who are in dual enrollment (High school access) at WVU and use Chromebooks managed by K12, can use RLDB in eCampus by following the step by step instructions provided in this PDF guide. .
To install LockDown Browser for Chromebook:
Log into the Chromebook and start the Chrome browser
Log into eCampus using a student account, and navigate to the exam that requires LockDown Browser
Select the link for downloading and installing LockDown Browser
From the Chrome web store, select “Add to Chrome” to install the LockDown Browser Extension
If you encounter an error when downloading RLDB for Chromebook, this issue is likely occurring because the ChromeOS version on the Chromebook is outdated. To fix this error, follow these steps:
Select Settings and click About ChromeOS to check the version of ChromeOS on your Chromebook.
Keep your Chromebook updated to the most recently available version via Google’s ChromeOS Stable channel.
If your Chromebook cannot be updated to meet the minimum requirements for RLDB, you will need to use a different device for an exam or quiz that requires RLDB. RLDB compatibility requirements can be found here.

The Respondus Monitor is a part of the Respondus LockDown Browser that enables web cam functionality during exams. Instructors may enable the Respondus Monitor for exams that are taken using the Respondus LockDown Browser. Chromebooks can also use the Respondus Monitor feature only if the LockDown Browser Chromebook "extension" is installed. To install the extension on the Chromebook, open the Chrome browser, and navigate to this URL, which will redirect to the Chrome web store, where you'll see the extension and be able to apply it.

Follow these instructions to access LockDown Browser after installing the Chromebook extension:
Log out of your Chromebook (click the Settings button, then click Sign Out).
After you've signed out, click the Apps button, then click LockDown Browser.
Enter West Virginia University in the Institution name field, then click Select.
The eCampus login screen will appear. Log into eCampus and navigate to your course.

Most technical issues are encountered during the pre-exam “Startup Sequence” of Respondus Monitor, where the webcam/microphone check occurs. Use the It’s the It’s not working feature working feature in Respondus Monitor to troubleshoot any issues. If you are unable to resolve the problem, use the Chat now option the Chat now option to access live chat support. The 24/7 live chat functionality can also be accessed through the Help Center in Respondus Monitor.
