Office Microsoft 365 allows you to sync your Apple iPhone and iPad devices with WVU employee email, calendar, contacts and reminders. The directions on this page show how to configure these devices.

Exchange-based email systems like Office Microsoft 365 use a Mobile Device Mailbox Policy. This policy applies to all devices that connect using ActiveSync. Currently, WVU has not modified the policy from the default configuration. You can read about the mailbox policy on the Microsoft Mobile Device Mailbox Policies page. By accessing your WVU email account using ActiveSync, you are agreeing to the Mobile Device Mailbox Policy.

Directions:

  1. Go to Settings.

  2. Select Passwords & Accounts.

  3. Select Add account.

  4. Select Microsoft Exchange.

  5. Enter your WVU email address and a Description.

  6. Select Next.

  7. Select Sign In.

  8. Select Work or school account, if prompted.

  9. Enter your WVU Login credentials. Click Sign in and authenticate with Duo.
    Note: This field may automatically populate with an email address in the format of FirstName.LastName@mail.wvu.edu. Update this field with your WVU login credentials.

  10. Click Continue if prompted with "Are you trying to sign into Apple Internet accounts?"

  11. Select the content you would like to synchronize and select Save.

Note: If prompted for a server address, enter outlook.office365.com.

If you find that your device will not complete the configuration, please try the following:

  1. Completely power down your device, restart it and try the directions again.

  2. Use your device's Safari browser to attempt to connect to Outlook Web App at outlook.com/mail.wvu.edu.

    If you are unable to see the Outlook Web App site prompting for your credentials, your device may not have a functional data connection. If that is the case, attempt to connect again from a location with a good data connection or contact your cellular carrier for assistance with your data connection.

    If you are able to see the Outlook Web App site asking you for your Login credentials, provide them and attempt to log in. If you are unable to log in, the problem may be with your account itself. In that case, please contact the IT Service Desk for assistance with your account.

  3. Temporarily disable cellular data on your device and connect to Wi-Fi. If you are on campus, please use the WVU.Encrypted network and go through the set up directions again. We have seen cases where a cellular data connection is not be able to make the initial connection to the

  1. Microsoft 365 system. Using Wi-Fi only may help complete the process. Be sure to turn your cellular data back on!

If you are still unable to get your device to connect, please contact the IT Service Desk or access Outlook by installing the Outlook app or by using the Outlook web app.
