West Virginia University is committed to student success. With this in mind, students are placed into math and chemistry courses based on prerequisites or placement scores. Students may place by ACT Math score, SAT Math score, scores on the ALEKS Math Assessment, or successful completion of a pre-requisite course. Learn more at Stem Pathway Details.

How do I take ALEKS?

To take ALEKS from home, log in to ecampus.wvu.edu and click on the ALEKS Placement course page. If the ALEKS Placement course is not available, click Course Catalog in the right-hand corner and search for “ALEKS.” Hover over the ALEKS Placement Course ID that corresponds with your enrollment year, click the drop-down arrow, and select Enroll. If Enroll is not available as an option, make sure you have submitted your academic deposit.

What if I have problems logging in?

To log in to take the ALEKS Math Assesment, you must have activated/claimed your Login account. If you have not claimed your Login account, go to login.wvu.edu and click Claim Account.

If you claimed your Login account, but you cannot remember your Login password, go to login.wvu.edu and click Forgot Password.

If you are still unable to ALEKS (Assessment and Learning in Knowledge Spaces) is a testing platform used to measure a student’s mathematical knowledge. ALEKS exam scores are used for math course placements. All first-time freshman admits must take ALEKS as part of their New Student Orientation (NSO). You must claim your WVU Login account first to access ALEKS. If you have already claimed your account and have forgotten your WVU Login password, you can change your Login password.

Need further assistance?

If you can’t log into ALEKS or need assistance claiming your Login account, call the ITS Service Desk at 304-293-4444. You will need to provide your student ID number when you call.
